Day by Day Itinerary
Day One: Cuzco to Arequipa
Morning at leisure in Cuzco before an afternoon transfer to the airport
for the flight to Arequipa. Meeting service upon arrival and transfer
to the deluxe Casa
Andina Private Collection, Arequipa. (B)
Day
Two: Arequipa to Colca Canyon Early morning departure for the Colca
Canyon, taking the road that passes between 'El Misti' (below) and 'Chanchani,'
Arequipa's two beautiful, snow-capped volcanoes. En route you will have
the opportunity to visit a vicuna reserve before arriving at the picturesque
towns surrounding the Canyon, where many women still wear their traditional
costumes. Lunch en route. Overnight at the Casa
Andina Colca B&B (left). (B, L)
Day Three: Colca Canyon to Arequipa
In the morning you will begin your search for the Condor, El Senor de
los Andes. 'El Cruz del Condor' site is the best place to admire the Colca
Canyon and the condors in flight. En route you will see the archaeological
remains of the first terracing of the Collaguas people, and the stone
terracing of the Incas. After a lunch in the countryside you begin your
journey back to Arequipa, arriving in the late afternoon. Overnight at
the Casa
Andina Private Collection. (B, L)
Day Four: Arequipa to Lima and Homeward
Bound This morning you are provided with a tour of the 'White City'
visiting the Plaza de Armas, an enchanting blend of baroque and local
Creole or native styles of architecture. The
plaza is flanked by the Cathedral on one side, and by typical colonial
arcades on the other three sides. Then tour the most fascinating sight
in Arequipa: the Santa Catalina Convent (left), which existed in mystery
for four centuries behind walls enclosing almost five square blocks. The
convent was a cloister and the nuns who entered were from the finest Peruvian
families. When they entered their fathers gave substantial dowries to
the order, and the nuns lived in individual houses, which their families
built. The ancient colonial treasures, artwork, and fine collections of
furniture, kitchen utensils, etc., make the two-hour visit most interesting.
Afternoon transfer to the airport for the flight to Lima, where our guide
will meet you to escort you to the new Ramada
Hotel Costa del Sol at the airport, where you will have dinner and
a site inspection. After dinner you will proceed to the airline ticket
counter to check in for your flight home. (B, D)
