EcoAdventures - The Plains of Nazca & Lord of Sipan

The Plains of Nazca - 2 & 3-Day Extensions

These enormous carvings in the desert are a three-hour drive south of Lima. Immense, mile-long geometric designs, stylized birds, spiders and monkeys constructed by an ancient civilization, sprawl across the desert floor and have been the source of speculation for centuries. EcoAdventures' motorcoach trip reveals the desert countryside south of Lima, provides a comfortable hotel for the night, and includes a 45-minute flight over the drawings via light aircraft. (For size reference, note the motorcoach at the top left of the photo below, left.)

Nazca Lines, Peru - For a size reference, note the bus at the top of the photo.Day Two: Plains of Nazca Flightseeing Be certain to take your camera this morning for a 45-minute overflight of the Plains of Nazca via light aircraft. Afternoon at leisure for optional tours, or just relaxing around the pool. The desert oasis where Ica is located has prospered for 2000 years, including the rich Nazcan civiliation. We recommend a visit to the very fine archaeological museum, with a collection of mummies and artifacts found in the area. A drive to Huacachina Lagoon is also very interesting. It was once a popular resort surrounding a lake which is drying up. The wealth families of Lima built ornate vacation homes, now mostly abandoned, surrounding an antique stone quay. (B)

Day Three: Nazca/Paracas/Lima Morning departure for the short drive to Paracas to the north and to the pier for a two-hour motorboat cruise around the Ballestas Islands. Much like the Channel Islands off the California Coast, these islands are teeming with marine wildlife. From this distance from the coast you can also view the 'Candelabro' of the Andes, a strange, huge, trident-shaped carving in the hillside, of unknown origin, that points a direct line south to the Plains of Nazca.
