Antigua

Antigua, former Spanish colonial capital city of the Central American viceroyalty, was founded in 1543. Though partially destroyed by the 1773 earthquake, it still preserves its colonial character with ornate churches, convents and Spanish-style homes. It is also home to some of the best quality arts and crafts in the country — a "must see" on any trip to Guatemala.

Half-Day Antigua tour (from Guatemala City) $45

There are many colorful buildings in Antigua. Also, there are no telephone poles in the old city - all of the wires are underground, thereby preserving the Old World colonial atmosphere!
